Biography
Erik Ritland’s organic folk rock is rooted in the past yet has a modern drive and energy. His mix of folk, classic rock n’ roll, and Americana evokes the spirit of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, the Beatles, and more.
Until 2009 Erik was the singer, songwriter, and leader of St. Paul alternative rock band Floating Bridge. Their accomplishments included opening for Mark Mallman’s Ruby Isle at their first ever show, sharing bills with Ice Palace, Jenny Dalton, and the Urban Hillbilly Quartet, and playing at popular venues around the Twin Cities including the Turf Club, the 400 Bar, the Uptown Bar, the 331 Club, and many more.
After Floating Bridge disbanded Erik took a step back and returned to his roots: traditional American folk music, roots rock, classic rock, traditional country, bluegrass, blues, and more. His debut E.P., Firelight, was released in August 2010 on Open City Records. To support the E.P., and his upcoming full-length album due out in Spring 2011, Erik is embarking on a Winter Tour throughout the Midwest in the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. Dates will be announced soon.
Two songs from the E.P. are included with this press kit. “Firelight” is a dark, traditional sounding folk song with modern vigor. “Stay Inside,” a brooding piece of folk/rock, shows Erik’s lyrical abilities.
Additionally, Erik is also rehearsing and booking shows with his full, electric folk/rock band the Best Days. Two songs from them are also included, the catchy, slide guitar driven “We’re Stepping Out” and the hard rock social commentary of “Throwaway Nation.”
