| Erik Ritland is an old soul in a modern world. His mix of folk, classic rock n’ roll, and Americana evokes the spirit of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, the Beatles, and more.
Until 2009 Erik was the singer, songwriter, and leader of St. Paul alternative rock band Floating Bridge. Their accomplishments included opening for Mark Mallman’s Ruby Isle at their first ever show, sharing bills with many local luminaries including Ice Palace, Jenny Dalton, Jonathan Rundman, and the Urban Hillbilly Quartet, and playing at popular venues around the Twin Cities including the Turf Club, the 400 Bar, the Uptown Bar, the 331 Club, Station 4, the Acadia, Big V’s, the Red Sea, and the Viking Bar.
After Floating Bridge disbanded Erik took a step back and returned to his roots. Listening closely to all his favorite songwriters and albums, playing and writing songs on the acoustic guitar, and jamming with friends led him to create a more organic, musically mature sound that mixed his folk roots, pop hooks, and a rock n’ roll energy.
Erik is currently in the studio forging this new sound on tracks for his debut album Folksides, due out in August on Open City Records. A single in anticipation of the album, “Firelight,” will be released soon, also on Open City.
